‘Get ‘em Next Time’

Posted by Short Motorsports Admin on 06/18 at 11:10 AM

The Short Motorsports team knew it would be a tough night as soon as they rolled the car out of the trailer last weekend. A broken stud from the torque tube was found on the trailer floor after removing the car from the trip to the speedway. Extensive work to the torque tube / driveline was completed mere minutes before slow warm-ups Saturday night. A back row starting position for the heat was yet another challenge that the team had to overcome. Steve clawed his way through the field to finish 3rd in the heat race which placed him 9th on the grid for the ‘A’ main event.
In the main event, only a hand full of cars made slight progress on the super-slick track, while the team could only accomplish finishing where they started. 9th place was recorded for Steve, but all in all, nothing more was torn up. The team will have the ‘workhorse’ tuned up for yet another $2,000 to win show at SFCR on June 21st.

2nd

Two Second Place Finishes in the Last Two Weeks… Deuces are wild for the Short Motorsports team.
The boys had the red and black machine tuned up again this week as their momentum continues to build. Starting 5th in the heat race, Steve made an exciting 3 wide pass into turn 3 on his way to finishing SECOND. Feeling lucky, Steve drew pill # 1 for the dash setting him up for and exciting ride. He would capture his SECOND dash win of the young season at SFCR with a straightaway lead over Tim Montgomery.
After leading the first 20 laps of the ‘A’ main, and having exciting battles with Joey Montgomery and Jason Keith, Keith would get the better of Steve in lapped traffic.
Immediately after pulling into the pits after bringing the 8s home in SECOND, Steve would pull a TWO inch rock out from under the throttle pedal.
The team looks forward to gaining ONE more spot next weekend as they return to SFCR.

Great Weekend

Posted by Short Motorsports Admin on 05/27 at 11:06 AM

The night after the biggest win for the Short Motorsports team was another $2,000 to win show at SFCR.
The night started out with a bang, with Steve taking home his second heat race win of the young season. Starting on the pole of the ‘Dash’, Steve would take a commanding lead on the lightning fast track, that would eventually place him on top of the grid for the ‘A’ main.
Steve would fall in line at the start in the second position, mirroring Worley Jr.’s every move. Halfway through the main, traffic would come into play as Worley went high, and Steve went low to split a lapped car. The lapper also chose the low line into turn three, opening the door for Jason Keith and Joey Montgomery to slip by. With the car becoming increasingly tight, Steve would hang onto the forth spot in the feature event.
The team was overall happy, taking home the MASS All Stars win, followed by a stout 4th place to round out the weekend.

VICTORY!

CAMARGO, IL (05-23-08) by Robert Cortum - Midwest All Star Series Image

Benton Race Park in Benton, Missouri is crucial for the O’Reilly Midwest All Star Series in 2008 as it plays host for a total of 5 events. The second of those event was held Friday night May 23, and Steve Short proved why he is always a contender when racing with the group.

Short, would take the lead over Tom Dickerman and not let go as he piloted his family owned 8S to his first victory of the season. Short found the inside groove to his liking as he took the lead, an area of the track that started coming in towards the middle of the event for a few of the superstars. The team performed solid over the night as they qualified 4th and then ran 4th in their heat race, placing them on the outside of row 2 for the feature.

“I like racing with these guys, and have raced with most of them over my career. I’d like to get out to more Midwest All Star Shows, but my schedule doesn’t allow it a lot of times,” stated Short.

In qualifying action, Tiffany Wyzard made O’Reilly Midwest All Star history, becoming the first female to record quick time for the series. A pair of “Doc” Sloan cars would take the 2nd and 3rd positions with “Sparky” Pate besting his boss by one position. The before mentioned Short qualified 4th and Jason Evans from nearby Sikeston, Missouri would make the top 5 comfortably.
Heat races were a hard fought follow the leader affair. Those who found themselves gaining position were few, but proved that track prep and adjustments were going to be key for the evening’s events. First Heat went to Jimmy Hurley, second was taken home by Mark Shirshikan, and the third heat by 2007 series Rookie of the Year Brad Greer.

The Dash event for the night marked the arrival of Kody Kinser as a top competitor. The youngster from Indiana showed the way of the “Members Only” event leading Sparky Pate, Doc Sloan, Ryan Bunton, AJ Bruns, and Jerrod Hull.

The O’Reilly Midwest All Star Series will make their 2nd of 3 stops this weekend, Saturday May 24th at Mount Vernon Speedway in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Visit http://www.midwestallstarseries.com for more info.

Round 3 : Mother Nature

Posted by Short Motorsports Admin on 05/13 at 11:22 AM

Yet again, the rain shows up and ruins the fun.
Back again next week.
Thanks to the fans that decided to show up, and to the track crew for putting in a long day.

Hard ‘Brake’

Posted by Short Motorsports Admin on 05/08 at 04:12 PM

After an exciting first night at SFCR, starting at the rear of the field and recording a solid 7th place finish, the following week wasn’t the best of times.
The night started off great with the first win for the Short Motorsports team in heat # 3. Steve took a commanding lead until the halfway point when the brakes faded. Unable to work the brakes, Steve backed up on the cushion to the rest of the field, however hung on for the win. Drawing the #6 pill for the Dash, Steve would start last with a rapidly changing track. Running in the back for the first two laps, Steve bicycled into turn 3, then on next lap he would give up his position to return to the pits. The culprit was a slashed right rear tire and more problems for the crew.
Onto the “A” main, Steve would start 6th in the field. Holding his position for the first 10 laps, Steve would spin entering turn 1. Feeling that something was wrong, Steve decided to retire to the pits. Moments later the crew would find that the left front brake would lock and unlock according to its will.
Hoping their luck has changed, the Short Motorsports team will return to SFCR on May 10th.

“Tough Night”… DNF

Posted by Short Motorsports Admin on 04/16 at 11:01 AM

The Short Motorsports team entered this past weekend with high hopes for the MASS All Stars event at AutoTire Racepark in Benton, MO. Last season at the MASS event, the Short Motorsports team led the first 3/4 of the event before a inboard brake seized, causing a dnf. Again on this night, the team encountered a rapidly changing track, partial power outages and some bad luck.
Steve had a great showing in qualifying, posting 5th fasted time recorded for the evening at 13.1 seconds. That would put him 5th on the grid of the second heat race. By the time the cars were pushed off for the heat, nearly half of the tracks’ lighting had lost power. MASS officials decided to proceed with the heat race. With a slick track, tacky ruts, and limited vision, passing was hit and miss. Steve would finish 6th in the heat race, missing the inversion transfer for the “A” main by one spot, which could’ve put the team on the front row for the finale. Instead, Steve would start 11th in the main. With more confidence in the car, and restored vision, the team was looking to move forward in the event. On lap 3, Steve clipped a tire on the infield and bent the drag link connected to the steering arm. The teams hopes were diminished with their 1st dnf of the season.

Saturday’s race at the St. Francois County Raceway was canceled due to inclement weather.

This week the team heads back to Benton and SFCR for another round of racing action.

Testing Day : “Satisfied”

Posted by Short Motorsports Admin on 04/01 at 11:16 AM

On Saturday The Short Motorsports team arrived early at the St. Francois County Raceway to get set for the day ahead. Upon arriving to the track with the freshly painted and lettered XXX chassis, they quickly discovered a problem. The team’s 4 - wheeler had come loose in the trailer and heavy damage was sustained to the front wing and wing posts. Not a good way to start off the day. With a quick fix, the crew had the 8s fixed up and ready for the annual SFCR car show. Hundreds of fans arrived for the festivities and enjoyed all the new paint schemes that the teams were unveiling. In the end, Short Motorsports had taken home the 1st Place trophy for the best appearing sprint car! Special thanks goes out to CK Graffix for the design again for this year.
After the Car Show, all of the teams hauled over to the track to turn loose for some testing. During the first session of hot laps made by the 8s, with the track in decent condition, Steve was turning 12.212 sec. lap times around the fast 1/4 mile. The comments from Steve after the first session with the new XXX Chassis was, “The car was pretty close to perfect.” The second and final session for the Short Motorsports team wasn’t as impressive, as the team found some fuel difficulties with the machine. However, lap times of 12.42 sec. were recorded for that session. The team later loaded up saying that they were, “overall, satisfied” with the new XXX Chassis, 8s machine.
Thanks go out to all of the fans that made it a very special day.

To all the kids that are 8s fans, Short Motorsports is proud to announce that a Kid’s Club has been in the works for this coming season. “The Shorty Club” is scheduled to be in effect within the month of April, and will include: Coloring Contests, Autographed Photo Give-aways, Photos with Steve, the 8s, and the Short Motorsports team, and much more!
Stay tuned for an updated release date regarding, “The Shorty Club!”
